Why gutter cleaning is worth doing properly

The right method for gutter cleaning
We choose the technique to suit the surface — soft washing or chemical-free steam where pressure would do harm, controlled pressure washing where it won't. That's how gutter cleaning gets a lasting result without damage.
Stops damage before it costs you
Left to spread, moss, algae and lichen trap moisture against your roof, walls and surfaces and shorten their life. Regular cleaning is the cheaper, greener way to stay ahead of remedial building work.
Certified biocide treatments
Fully certified to disinfect and prevent regrowth, applied with minimal impact on occupants, pets and wildlife.
A friendly, local team
Owner-led and fully insured, known across Chichester and West Sussex for careful work and fair pricing — domestic and commercial equally welcome.
What we clean & clear
Gutters are the part of the house nobody looks at until they overflow. We clear and clean the whole roofline run as a single job — the gutters emptied and flushed, the boards behind them brought back clean — right across Chichester and the harbour villages:
Gutters & downpipes — moss, leaves, silt and seedlings vacuumed out of the gutter line and the downpipes checked to run free, so the rain goes where it should.
Soffits & fascias — the boards under and behind the gutter, reached safely from the ground and cleared of the black streaking and green algae that builds up there fastest near the coast.
Bargeboards & gutter faces — the front face of the guttering and the gable boards wiped back so the whole roofline matches once the job is done.
It is a service in its own right, not an add-on — but because we are already up at the roofline it is the natural moment to clean the uPVC frames and roofline properly too, and many customers bundle it with a window clean so the whole face of the house comes up together.
Why blocked gutters cause damp & overflow damage
A gutter has one job: catch the rain off the roof and carry it to the downpipe. Block it with moss, leaves and silt and the water has nowhere to go but over the edge — straight down the wall. On the damp, salt-laden coast around Bracklesham, East Wittering and Selsey, that overflow keeps the brickwork and render permanently wet, and wet walls mean penetrating damp inside, blown plaster, and the slow rot of the timber and uPVC behind the gutter. In winter the trapped water freezes, and the weight pulls the gutter off its brackets so the whole run needs refitting. Clearing a gutter costs a fraction of the render, plaster and fascia repairs that follow when it is left — it is the cheapest, highest-value piece of exterior maintenance a house gets.
Our method — vacuum & safe access
We clear the bulk of every gutter with a gutter-vac: a high-reach vacuum pole that lifts the moss, silt and leaves straight out of the gutter line from the ground, with a camera on the end so we can show you the gutter is genuinely clear before and after. It means no leaning ladders against your fascias, no walking the roof, and safe access to the high runs on three-storey and awkward properties around Chichester and the Witterings. Where a corner or an outlet needs hand-clearing we work off a ladder safely and properly footed, but the vac does the heavy lifting from solid ground — safer for the property and for us, and far quicker than the old ladder-and-bucket way.
Soffits & fascias
Clearing the inside of the gutter is the function; cleaning the soffits and fascias is the finish that makes it look done. The boards under and behind the gutter are uPVC, and they go grey with traffic film and green with algae faster than any other surface on the house because they sit shaded, high and constantly damp. We reach them safely from the ground with reach-and-wash poles and a gentle low-pressure rinse, lifting the black streaking and green film off the soffits, fascias and bargeboards so the whole roofline comes back bright. It is the same roofline work as our uPVC cleaning — clearing the gutters and cleaning the boards in one visit is the tidiest way to do it.
One-off & seasonal options
Sometimes you just need a blocked gutter cleared now, before the next downpour — we do one-off clears and can usually fit you in quickly across Chichester and the harbour villages. But gutters fill up again every year, and the cheapest way to stay ahead of the damage is to never let them get fully blocked. So we offer a twice-yearly gutter-care schedule: once in late autumn after the leaves have dropped, and once in spring to clear the winter moss and blossom. You go on the round, we turn up and handle it, and you never get caught out by an overflow in the first heavy rain. Homes under trees or near the treeline at Birdham and Itchenor especially benefit — just ask us to put you on the twice-yearly round.
Areas we cover
We clear and clean gutters, soffits and fascias right across Chichester and the harbour villages: Chichester (PO18, PO19), West Wittering, East Wittering, Bracklesham, Birdham, Itchenor and Selsey (PO20), out to Bognor Regis (PO21, PO22) and Emsworth (PO10) on the Hampshire border. It pairs naturally with roof cleaning — if we are clearing the moss off your roof, clearing what has washed into the gutters is the obvious finish.

Do you clear gutters across Chichester and the harbour villages?
Yes. Gutter, soffit and fascia cleaning is a standalone service we run right across Chichester (PO18, PO19) and the harbour villages — West Wittering, East Wittering, Bracklesham, Birdham, Itchenor and Selsey (PO20) — out to Bognor Regis (PO21/PO22) and Emsworth (PO10) on the Hampshire border. If your gutters are overflowing or sprouting, just ask.
How do you clean gutters without going up a ladder?
We use a gutter-vac system: a high-reach vacuum pole that clears the moss, leaves and silt straight out of the gutter line from the ground, with a camera on the end so we can show you the gutter is genuinely clear. It means no leaning ladders against the fascias, no walking your roof, and safe access to the high runs on three-storey and awkward properties around Chichester and the Witterings. Where a gutter needs hand-clearing we work off a ladder safely, but the vac does the bulk of it from the ground.
Why do blocked gutters matter — what damage do they actually cause?
A blocked gutter has nowhere to send the rain, so it overflows down the wall. On the damp, salt-laden coast around Bracklesham and Selsey that means saturated brickwork, penetrating damp inside, rotted fascias and soffits, and in winter the weight of trapped water and ice pulling the gutter off its brackets. Clearing it is far cheaper than the render, plaster and timber repairs that follow if you leave it. It is the single most cost-effective bit of exterior maintenance there is.
Do you clean the soffits and fascias as well as clearing the gutters?
We do both. Clearing the inside of the gutter is the function; cleaning the soffits, fascias and the front face of the guttering is the finish. We reach the boards safely from the ground with reach-and-wash poles and lift off the black streaking and green algae that builds up along the roofline, so once the gutters run clear the whole roofline looks clean and bright too — right across Chichester, the Witterings and Selsey.
Should I have my gutters cleared on a regular schedule?
For most homes around Chichester, twice a year does it — once in late autumn after the leaves drop, and once in spring to clear the winter moss and blossom. Properties under trees or near the treeline at Birdham and Itchenor can need it more often. We offer a twice-yearly gutter-care schedule so it is just handled and you never get caught out by an overflow in the first heavy rain — ask us to put you on the round.
