Why cladding cleaning is worth doing properly

The right method for cladding cleaning
We choose the technique to suit the surface — soft washing or chemical-free steam where pressure would do harm, controlled pressure washing where it won't. That's how cladding cleaning gets a lasting result without damage.
Stops damage before it costs you
Left to spread, moss, algae and lichen trap moisture against your roof, walls and surfaces and shorten their life. Regular cleaning is the cheaper, greener way to stay ahead of remedial building work.
Certified biocide treatments
Fully certified to disinfect and prevent regrowth, applied with minimal impact on occupants, pets and wildlife.

Owner-led and fully insured, known across Chichester and West Sussex for careful work and fair pricing — domestic and commercial equally welcome.
Cladding types we clean
Exterior cladding gives a home a clean, modern face — until algae, mould and black streaking settle into the boards and the whole elevation starts to look tired. Cladding is designed to shrug off the weather, but its grooves and textured surface trap dirt and hold moisture, so it greens up faster than most people expect. We bring it back. Our cladding cleaning lifts the grime and organic growth off the boards and restores the original colour and finish — and because every material reacts differently, we match the treatment to what we are cleaning:
Timber & cedar cladding — natural boards on homes across Chichester and the Witterings, gently soft washed so the timber is never splintered or bleached.
Composite & uPVC panel — the low-maintenance finishes so common on newer coastal properties; cleaned at low pressure so the surface never hazes or cracks.
Painted & metal cladding — powder-coated, fibre-cement and render-board, treated so the coating and colour stay sound and intact.
It is the same surface-appropriate thinking that runs through all of our soft washing work, and links across to our render and brick & stonework cleaning — the right method for the material, never one harsh tool for everything.
Soft wash for delicate finishes
This is the rule we never break: cladding is cleaned by soft washing only. A pressure washer turned on cladding does real harm — it forces water behind the boards where it sits and rots the structure, lifts paint and powder coatings, splinters timber and can crack older composite or uPVC. We do the opposite. A safe, biodegradable treatment kills the algae, mould, lichen and black spot at the root, and then we rinse it away at low pressure. The growth comes off, the colour comes back, and the boards, their fixings and their coating are left completely intact. It is the same gentle approach we take to roof cleaning and render cleaning, and the deliberate counterpart to the firmer wash we reserve for tough horizontal surfaces like driveways and patios. Matching the method to the material is the whole job.
Restoring colour & finish
Clearing the green is half the work; keeping it clear is the other half. Once the cladding is clean we can finish with a biocide treatment that keeps algae, mould and black spot at bay for far longer than a clean alone. That matters most on the damp, coastal-facing elevations around West Wittering, Bracklesham and Selsey, where the salt-laden sea air keeps boards wet and growth returns faster than it does inland. For the most delicate finishes — natural timber, painted board and older composite — we can also step up to chemical-free steam cleaning, lifting growth with heat and low pressure alone and nothing running off into your borders or the harbour waters.
Areas we cover
The difference a cladding clean makes to a house is hard to overstate — a green, streaked, grubby elevation comes back looking crisp and cared for, and it lifts the whole property with it. Every job above was real cladding we cleaned across the harbour villages, from panels out at East Wittering to elevations near West Wittering. And because we soft wash rather than pressure blast, that finish is restored without ever driving water behind the boards or stripping the coating.

The right method for the material — soft wash, steam or controlled pressure
Do you clean cladding across Chichester and the harbour villages?
Yes. Exterior cladding cleaning is part of our regular soft-wash work right across Chichester (PO18, PO19) and the harbour villages — West Wittering, East Wittering, Bracklesham, Birdham, Itchenor and Selsey (PO20) — out to Bognor Regis (PO21/PO22) and Emsworth (PO10) on the Hampshire border. If you are nearby, just ask.
What types of cladding can you clean?
All the cladding we see around Chichester and the Witterings — timber and cedar, composite and uPVC panel, painted and powder-coated metal, fibre-cement and render-board. Each finish reacts differently, so we match the soft-wash strength and method to the material rather than blasting everything the same way.
Is pressure washing safe for cladding?
Not on most cladding. High pressure forces water behind the boards, lifts paint and coatings, splinters timber and can crack older composite or uPVC. We clean cladding by soft washing instead: a safe biocide treatment kills the algae and black staining at the root, then a gentle low-pressure rinse lifts it away — clean boards, no damage, no water driven behind the cladding.
Why does cladding go green and streaky, especially near the coast?
The damp, salt-laden air off the sea around West Wittering, Bracklesham and Selsey keeps cladding wet for longer, and that is exactly what algae, mould and black spot need to take hold. North-facing and shaded elevations green up fastest, and the vertical grooves in board cladding trap dirt and streak. Our soft wash clears it at the root and a biocide finish slows how quickly it comes back on those exposed coastal walls.
Will cleaning fade or damage the colour of my cladding?
No — protecting the finish is the whole point of soft washing. We never blast cladding with high pressure, so there is no risk of stripping paint, bleaching timber or hazing composite. The treatment lifts the grime and growth and brings back the original colour, leaving the boards and their coating exactly as they should be — just clean.
